New Mimio® Interactive Classroom Technology Helps Teachers Engage Students with Multimedia Lessons

Mimio® Studio 6 Software and Mimio® Pad Wireless Tablet to Debut at National Educational Computing Conference

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - June 25, 2008 - Mimio , a leading provider of interactive and digital whiteboard technology, today introduced Mimio® Studio 6 software, a major upgrade that delivers full support for rich multimedia content, as well as a new user interface and gallery that make it easier to create and present interactive lesson plans in the classroom. The company also announced Mimio® Pad, a wireless tablet that gives teachers control and access to the interactive whiteboard throughout the classroom. The products will debut at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC), which convenes June 29 in San Antonio, Texas.

New Mimio® Studio 6 software lets teachers easily create and present engaging, rich multimedia lessons, with integrated audio, video, and Flash animations. Multimedia files can be directly embedded and controlled from within the Mimio® software. Users can also instantly import existing lessons from PowerPoint, Word, and PDF documents into the software.

"We know that kids today expect multimedia content - it's what they live with in their day-to-day activities. By making it easier to incorporate dynamic material into a lesson, teachers may be able to reach more students and help them retain lessons more effectively," explained Mel Jackson, Mimio general manager. "More compelling content can also help energize the classroom, creating more individual student interest and overall class involvement."

The software includes many new features centered around ease of lesson creation including a new compact toolbar and a new content gallery with real-time search. The content gallery is loaded with ready-to-use lessons for a variety of grade levels and subjects.

Other features in Mimio® Studio 6

  • Transparency - Objects may be set to any opacity level
  • Locking - Objects may be locked to a fixed location or size
  • Trashcan - Users can easily delete objects from within the software by dropping them into an on screen trashcan

Mimio® Pad
New Mimio® Pad allows teachers to control interactive whiteboard content from around the classroom giving added flexibility to the Mimio® system. Teachers are free to walk about the class or engage with students individually while maintaining control of the interactive lesson material as they move – up to 30 feet (10 m) from the master computer. The large 8" X 6" working area provides ample space to write and work with the results showing on the interactive whiteboard.

Using Mimio wireless technology, the small USB receiver is plugged into the computer and Mimio® Pad is ready to go. With 16 soft keys that provide easy access to the most commonly used functions of the Mimio® system, Mimio® Pad works out of the box with no complicated setup required. It features an integrated rechargeable battery for up to 16 hours of wireless operation and can also be charged by USB. Additional Mimio® Pads can be added to a single Mimio Interactive system – up to 50 on one receiver.

Availability
Mimio® Studio 6 software for Windows will be available in July 2008 as a free update to existing users of Studio 5. Mimio® Pad will be available in October and retails for $499.
